Girls' Varsity Hockey vs Millbrook School

Score/Result: 6-3 W

Girls' Hockey Opens With a Win Over Millbrook

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Taft came out with intensity in the first period and generated a lot of offensive opportunities right away.  The Millbrook goalie was kept busy, facing 16 shots in the first sixteen minutes of play.  Natalie Lima and Lexi Cafiero assisted Natalie Witkowski on her first goal as she drove to the net from the corner and fired a shot over the Millbrook goalie's shoulder.  Natalie Lima was next to notch a goal taking a pass from Witkowski and beating the goalie with a low hard shot.  Millbrook didn't back down and anwered with two minutes left in the period when they slid one through Taft goalie, Sidney Molnar's pads.  The first period ended with Taft leading 2-1.

In the second period, Taft continued to generate opportunities in the offensive zone, peppering the Millbrook goalie with 18 more shots throughout the period.  However, it was Millbrook who notched the next two goals, taking a short-lived lead halfway through the period.  Liv Santini tied it up at three apiece, taking a pass from Morgan Trimper and driving to the net, lifting a backhand under the goalie's arm.  Natalie Witkowski would score the game winner two minutes later with a nifty deke on the goalie.

In the third period, Ally Trimper sunk in an insurance goal, assisted by sister Morgan and Santini.  Natalie Witkowski rounded out a hat trick, assisted by Lexi Cafiero to end the game at 6-3.  The Millbrook goalie faced just under 50 shots, while Taft goalie Sidney Molnar turned away 21.

Notable play by Sarah Ince and Claudia Vira on defense and solid forechecking from Anna Rasmussen, Sasha Bridger and Lauren Hoey, helped the Rhinos to seal their first victory.  Taft hosts Lawrenceville on Saturday evening.
