Boys' Junior Varsity Hockey vs Westminster School

Score/Result: 1-3 L

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

After a forty two day break between games, the Rhinos face a difficult opponent in Westminster.  The JV squad had to overcome rust and injuries to two key players during this Wednesday afternoon tilt.

From the opening faceoff, the Westminster sqaud dominated the play with aggressive forechecking and physical play which the Rhinos were unable to match.  Desptite this, senior Oscar Landry took advantage of a Westminster defensive lapse by beating the opposing goalie on a breakaway.  The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second period when Westminster tied the game on a rebound in the slot.  Both team went into the second intermission with a 1-1 tie.

The Rhinos were not able to produce any momentum during the thrid period as Westminster continued to put pressure in the Taft defensive zone.  Taft junior goalie Winston Salk was the best player on the ice by turning away 29 of 32 shots but even with his stellar play, Westminster managed to slip two pucks past him in the third to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Although there was nine minutes left on the game clock, the Rhinos were not able to orchestrate a come back and eventually fell short today.
