Girls' Varsity Basketball vs Choate Rosemary Hall

Score/Result: 41-42 L

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

Both teams struggled to establish offensive rhythm in this first game – postponed from last Saturday - after the winter break. But partway through the second half, Choate’s scoring inside and from the free throw line picked up, and Taft could not quite keep pace. But down the stretch, Juliana Yamin nailed all three from the charity stripe after being hacked while shooting from long range. Then, still down three with clock winding down, the Big Red’s Lauren Pelosi stuck what looked to be a game-tying 3-ball with thirteen seconds to go. But the ref ruled that her foot was on the line, making it a regular field goal. So the home team still trailed by a point, and after missed free throws by a Choate player, the Rhinos could not get a good look at the hoop as time ran out. It was, in short, a typically close Taft-Choate girls’ varsity basketball game.

Yamin and Pelosi, with 13 and 14 points, respectively, led Taft’s offense, while Kayla Robinson and Jalissa Rodriguez chipped in with 4 each.
