Dance

Housed in a large, high-ceilinged studio, Taft's dance program offers a strong foundation in technique, exposure to a wide variety of dance forms, and opportunities to perform as well as choreograph.

On a typical day in the large, high-ceilinged studio at Taft, one sees athletes gaining flexibility, students trying jazz for the first time, and classical ballet dancers practicing their fouettes. The Taft dance program offers students many opportunities to take class, choreograph, and perform in a variety of dance styles. Experienced dancers have the opportunity to continue structured technical and performance training in the Taft Dance Ensemble, which meets and performs year round.

Recent performances include selections from "West Side Story" as well as a wide range of programs from the modern and contemporary repertoire. Further opportunities to learn include professional dance companies that come to Taft in residency programs. Students can also avail themselves of master classes held in the area, and attend performances in Hartford, New Haven and New York.
